newsletter 1 - february

Welcome to the first development newsletter of Minikin Berry Brawl. 🌿

This month, I am covering what happened in February (despite its delay), including all the crazy fanatics and special tidbits you might be interested in. 👀

THE GRANT! First off, the biggest news of all for the future of Minikin Berry Brawl and Minikin Games is the huge grant of £1000 that we qualified for! 🎉💸

This grant allows me to cover the costs of the prototype, active website running, and purchasing merchandise to keep Minikin Games afloat during development. (fingers crossed!) Aside from the grant, Minikin Games is funded out-of-pocket. This means any commissions I come across as an artist are going straight towards Minikin Berry Brawls' development. (This also means that I am rather penniless)

THE WEBSITE As you can see, the website is up and functioning! You can read more about the specifics of what will be happening here on my welcome blog - ( grand opening! ). I hope you enjoy your stay and learn more about Minikin Berry Brawl along the way. 💙

Some sections of the website are still yet to be fully developed, such as the Merchandise section and “About me”. Do not worry; these will be filled out soon!

MINIKIN BERRY BRAWL PROTOTYPE PROGRESS

Plenty of progress on the physical prototype of Minikin Berry Brawl has occurred! This will be quite the drop of information, so prepare your excitement! 🤩

1. Rulebook Minikin Berry Brawl features a 12-page rulebook that encapsulates gameplay components and rules. You can find a downloadable pdf copy of it right now on “home” or here. The exciting news is that the printed version has now arrived! What do you think? It is only a small batch of 5 copies, but I am looking to purchase more later, as this was only a test run. (Printed by Doxzoo)

2. Berry Bush The Berry Bush is an assembled component and a major Minikin Berry Brawl gameplay feature. 🌿 It has a standing base, a top sticker that displays a berry bush illustration, and an icon. (read more about its purpose in the rulebook) The wood base of the Berry Bush structure was graciously provided by Madhatter Crafts - Laser Cut Designs. ❤️

3. The box & components! Drumroll please! 🎉 The boxes and major components have arrived!

The most exciting (and expensive) part of development is here! I am astonished by the quality of the components and cannot wait to start playtesting once the rest of the components arrive. This means all the card decks, dice, hexagonal tiles, rulebooks, Berry bushes and boxes are ready to go! (Featured components were printed using boardgamesmaker) You will see the development of the miniatures and finishing touches in the next newsletter, with an estimated deadline for three fully functioning prototypes to be ready by the beginning of March. 👀

4. An attempt at figures/miniatures To give you a sneak peek at how the figures are going.. I would like to share with you the first attempt at 3d printing the miniature of Muscaria. (Warning: beheaded mushroom 😱)

To end on a less gruesome note, here is a mandatory picture of my dog “ kiki “, which you will grow accustomed to seeing.
